Bringing elite tools, habits and systems to the many, not the few

Democratising High Performance

As we prepare to take on the Atlantic row—a challenge that will test every fibre of our resilience, teamwork, and determination—I’ve been reflecting on a question that sits at the heart of our mission at gROW: What if the secrets of high performance weren’t just reserved for Olympians and elite athletes? What if every family, every team, every community, and every individual could access the tools, systems, and mindset that drive extraordinary achievement?

This is the essence of democratising high performance.
From the Elite Arena to Everyday Life

My journey, from business owner to finalist on SAS: Who Dares Wins, to rowing oceans or cycling continents, has taught me that the real value in high-performance knowledge isn’t in winning medals or setting records. It’s in the way these lessons can transform daily life, health, and resilience – for everyone.

Elite environments—whether in sport, the military, or adventure—are like laboratories for human potential. But if these insights stay locked away, only to be performed for an audience, then high performance becomes little more than a circus act, unattainable for the vast majority of us.

The true power lies in translating these lessons for everyday people, helping families, teams, and communities to thrive.

A Systems Approach: Beyond the Gym or the plate

High performance isn’t just about what happens in a training session, or what we put in our mouths. It’s about how we live, move, recover, and connect—every single day. You can’t out-exercise a sedentary lifestyle, nor can you fuel greatness on poor sleep and processed food.

If we want to optimise our performance for our World Record attempt, we know that we need to address the whole picture:

  • Movement: Not just specific row training, but integrating functional activity (and NEAT – non exercise activity thermogenesis) movement into daily routines.
  • Nutrition: Simple, sustainable habits that nourish body and mind.
  • Sleep: Prioritising rest as a foundation for growth and resilience.
  • Stress Management: Building mental fitness to weather life’s storms.

But these are not just the domains of athletes—they are the building blocks of a thriving lifestyle – for all of us.

Community: A Hub for Change

One of the most powerful insights I’ve learned is that the communities we are part of (teams, social circles, families) are the functional leaders of change. When we are equipped with the right tools, knowledge, and support, we become engines of positive transformation. And when those behaviours are mirrored by the people we spend most time with, our chances of success sky rocket.

Imagine the ripple effect if everyone took small steps towards better movement, nutrition, and rest. The aggregate impact on public health and well-being would be profound. This is why our Atlantic row isn’t just about crossing an ocean—it’s about inspiring and empowering others to take charge of their own journey. And because I have witnessed that transformation in my own life, I know it’s not only possible, but also powerful.

Curiosity, Innovation, and Accessibility

High performance is a process of continual curiosity and innovation. At gROW, we’re committed to making proven strategies more efficient, accessible, and relevant for everyone. We’re constantly asking:

  • How can we simplify complex science for real-world use?
  • How can we make movement fun and inclusive?
  • How can we all build resilience together?
Bridging the Gap

Our Atlantic row is a metaphor for the journey we want to inspire in others. It’s about closing the gap between elite sport science and everyday life, empowering individuals and families to take charge of their health, movement, and resilience.

We’re rowing not just for ourselves, but to show that with the right mindset, tools, and support, high performance is within everyone’s reach.

Join us on this journey. Let’s democratise high performance—and gROW together.
